HOUSTON — Posted on a wall just inside the visitors clubhouse door here is a painting of Ryan Zimmerman being mobbed at home plate after hitting his first career walk-off homer against the Yankees on Father’s Day 2006.
Opie Otterstad, an artist from Austin, Texas, whom Major League Baseball commissioned to depict the World Series winners each fall, created the detailed piece.
The painting impressed several Nationals players and coaches when they arrived yesterday, and clubhouse manager Mike Wallace inquired about purchasing it. Unfortunately, Otterstad already has sold the piece to a memorabilia collector in the District.

OVERHEARD
I spent 16 years of my career here. This is where I started as a player, where I started as a coach. It’s always going to be special for me.
