The Obama slogan is being put to use in Nevada, where the state Democratic party has started a canned food fundraising drive.

Here’s Sam Lieberman, chairman of the state party, explaining the “Yes We Cans!” program in a recent email:

As Democrats we have had a tremendous year, but we must temper our electoral victories with knowledge that many Nevadans find themselves in difficult circumstances this holiday season.

As the party that has promised to stand up for working families and those who are suffering from home foreclosures, and the economic downturn, I am asking you all to step up this week and take part in the Nevada Democratic Party’s Holiday Food Drive, “Yes We Cans!”

There are many ways you can help. If your local party of club would like to collect and organize canned goods and non-perishable food items, and distribute them to your local food bank of choice.

And of course, you can drop off donations to the Nevada State Democratic Party Headquarters …

When we work together we really can be the change we want to see.
