Mike Green was in full pads Friday morning. Several of his teammates were on the ice for an optional practice at Kettler Capitals Iceplex. It was progress.
“That was the most I’ve done in a long time,” Green said. “It felt good, and the most important thing [is] I don’t have anything going on, so each day’s been better and today was nice to get a good skate in.”
Green declared himself symptom free and said it was now just a matter of getting back into game shape.
But this was a very light workout with 10 total Caps skaters on the ice with the goaltenders. Green has talked about wanting to get in three full practices before getting back into the lineup, and this certainly doesn’t count as a full practice.
Even with injuries on the blue line, including one to John Erskine that happened Thursday night in a first-period fight, Green isn’t rushing back.
“He’s looking better and better every day,” coach Bruce Boudreau said. “We’re taking our time, I think, getting it right and doing it right with Mike. Hopefully he’s practicing full with us on Monday.”
