NEW YORK – The Capitals expect the best game of the year from the Rangers. But it’s hard not to expect a sharp outing in the spotlight on Sunday afternoon.

It’s on NBC. At Madison Square Garden. It doesn’t get much better than that … at least for a first-round game.

The Caps are 3-1 in Sunday afternoon NBC games this season and also won the Winter Classic on national television. Guys like Alex Ovechkin not only crave the spotlight but thrive in it. (See his performance a couple weeks ago in Toronto).

But it’s not just Ovechkin – it’s this entire team. After Washington’s overtime victory against Chicago last month on a Sunday afternoon, Mike Knuble explained why the Caps are so good in these situations.

“We like our ‘Monday Night Football’ games. We’re on NBC and it’s the NHL’s time to shine,” the veteran right wing said. “They’re like our Monday Night games. They’re fun to play and the afternoon presents a challenge for both teams to get up and get going and play.”

Puck drops after 3 p.m. – right in the middle of that spotlight.
