Yet again, the Capitals were forced to play with five defensemen.
On Tuesday night Dennis Wideman went down. On Thursday night John Erskine went down. Against the Sabres on Saturday night it was Tyler Sloan’s turn.
Sloan left the game in the second period after colliding with a Buffalo player in the neutral zone. He had been skating with call-up Sean Collins, brought in from Hershey because of Erskine’s injury.
He did not return, and Bruce Boudreau termed Sloan “day-to-day” after getting his “bell rung.”
Erskine declared himself “ready to go” earlier Saturday but was held out of the lineup.
Both Mike Green and Tom Poti appear to be making strides to return, though no official date has been set for either to see game action.
