NEW YORK | Mike Knuble was nowhere to be found around Madison Square Garden on Wednesday morning. But he was still the prime topic of conversation around the Capitals.

Here’s what everyone had to say about Knuble, in the order the questions were asked:

Bruce Boudreau

On whether Knuble traveled

“I’m not gonna talk about any players today. So whether he did, his equipment’s up there, you’ll see tonight whether he’s here or whether he’s not.”

Nicklas Backstrom

“Mike is terrific at going to the net. He scores all the dirty goals in front of the net. He’s always there. Hopefully we can find a way to be good there too.”

Marcus Johansson

“It’s always tough. He’s been really good for us all year and he scores goals – he scored a goal the last game. It just means we all gotta step up here and play a really good game.”

Brooks Laich

“It is an opportunity for someone else. Maybe myself – maybe I move in front from the point. I don’t know what’s going on yet. That’s usually where the goals are scored and Mike leads the way in that department. He’s also a big factor on the penalty kill and five-on-five. He really embodies what we want to play and how we want to play around here. We’ll have to step up while Mike’s not in the lineup.”

Eric Fehr

“He’s obviously one of our older guys that’s gone through all the battles. It’s tough that he’s not here right now, but we got guys that are gonna have to step up.”

John Carlson

“I think that we’ve got to take a page out of his book here tonight. Everyone else chipping in and doing the things that he does.”
