Michal Neuvirth has excelled against the Pittsburgh Penguins ever since Dan Bylsma was critical of him on HBO’s “24/7” program last season. But Tomas Vokoun will get the start in net for the Washington Capitals on Thursday night.
He was not surprised about getting the call again.
“I thought I played pretty good last game,” Vokoun said. “It’s coach’s decision. … It’s not like it’s the first time I played two games in a row.”
Vokoun, 35, in his career is 8-9-6 with a 2.63 GAA and .924 save percentage against the Penguins. Earlier this year he was dominant against them for the most part, making 39 saves on 41 shots as the Caps were badly outplayed.
Vokoun was 0-2-0 last season against the Penguins with a 3.25 GAA and .891 save percentage. But that was playing behind the Florida Panthers.
Marc-Andre Fleury gets the nod in net for Pittsburgh. The Caps faced Brent Johnson during their visit to Consol Energy Center in October.
