DENVER | The Washington Capitals had to finish yet another game a man short. This time it was up front with Mathieu Perreault, who left Saturday night’s matchup at the Colorado Avalanche after one period.
Perreault did not return because of an illness, a team spokesman said during the first intermission. By the second period, he was in the press box in street clothes.
Centering the fourth line, Perreault played 3:14 in the first period and took a holding penalty. His final shift ended with 4:43 left.
