DENVER | The question of “Where in the world is Mike Green?” has been answered, but it’s uncertain whether his presence with the Washington Capitals is much progress.

Green was at Pepsi Center with the team on Saturday and did some off-ice workouts, but he did not skate as George McPhee said earlier in the week that the defenseman would.

“It’s still the same,” coach Dale Hunter said.

Green exchanged polite pleasantries with reporters while sitting outside the visiting locker room but he was not made available to talk in any on-the-record interview.

Saturday night will be the 17th straight game Green has missed with a strained right groin. Counting the Avalanche game, the 26-year-old will have missed 23 of the past 24 games.

Hunter is obviously eager to coach his first game with Green actually playing.

“You definitely want your top D. He’s played very well,” the coach said. “I haven’t seen him on the bench playing, but it just takes time. It will heal. Time heals everything and it just takes time. It’s something that you can’t rush.”

Green saw a specialist this week. There is no timetable for his return to full practice, let alone game action.
