Here’s the best of what the Capitals had to say after Sunday’s 4-3 overtime victory over the Chicago Blackhawks at Verizon Center:

Bruce Boudreau:

“The playoffs are a different animal. This is still the regular season. You want to play as hard as you can, all teams are trying to position themselves, but unless you’ve been in the playoffs, once it hits there, it ramps up an awful lot more, no matter who you’re gonna play.”

On goaltending situation

“They’re really not making it easy on me. I’m not trying to be aloof here. But Varly was going great, and then he gets hurt. Neuvy was going great, he gets hurt. Holtby’s going great now. I mean, it’s decision time.”

On waiting until late to announce goalie last year

“We all knew who was gonna be the starting goalie, we just didn’t wanna tell you.”

Mike Knuble:

“This was fun. We like our ‘Monday Night Football’ games. We’re on NBC and it’s the NHL’s time to shine. And you know it’s nationwide. They’re like our Monday Night games. They’re fun to play and the afternoon presents a challenge for both teams to get up and get going and play.”

On his game-winner

“You get a chance to go to overtime and the trick is to be offensive without forgetting your defensive responsibility. … Real heads-up play by Marcus [Johansson]. It would have been very easy for him to bury his head there and try to jam it through, but I kind of laid my stick to the side, and he put it on the tape. It was a very smart play by him.”

Brooks Laich:

On stretch run as playoff dress rehearsal

“I think the last 20 games are that way. I think ever since you make the trades at the trade deadline it’s that way. But we’re aware of the schedule, and now we go on the road for six. That makes the home stand that much more important, and I’m glad to come out successful on it.”

Braden Holtby:

“I didn’t feel that great out there, actually. Today was kind of a battle the whole game. It was a little tough just trying to make sure that I was keeping myself into it and giving myself the opportunity to make saves and thankfully the guys played a great game, especially defensively, and didn’t give up too much.”

On defensive game by teammates

“The biggest thing we did was clear rebounds in front, because they throw a lot of loose pucks kinda randomly at the net – just with kinda no purpose just hoping for the best. We were pretty sharp in front of our own net, and that’s kinda the reason we won.”
