The Capitals going wild inside a packed Capital Centre, the Flyers crushed by a sudden death series loss: April 17, 1988 was a momentous day in Washington hockey history, and now it’s immortalized with its own commercial.

Dale Hunter’s overtime game-winner in Game 7 of the 1988 Patrick Division semifinals is featured in the NHL’s new “History Will Be Made” commercial campaign. It’s entitled “Amends” and shows Hunter breaking through the defense and beating Philadelphia goalie Ron Hextall to capture the series.


Afterward, the celebration by players and fans is showcased, with the commercial ending on a close-up of Hunter.
