OTTAWA - Semyon Varlamov led the Capitals onto the ice on Friday night at Scotiabank Place, going against the idea all day that Michal Neuvirth was starting against the Senators. The 22-year-old Russian gets the nod instead.

Neuvirth appeared to be ill at the morning skate, though he was the first goalie off the ice.

Varlamov talked about playing in Montreal on Saturday, though that now may be in doubt with him starting in Ottawa. But he did say he’s fully recovered from the knee injury.

“I feel good. I’m 100 percent to get back,” he said through a team-provided interpreter. “It’s never great to miss some time, but I’m just trying to stay positive. I’m just glad I’m back and ready to play.”

Coach Bruce Boudreau said Friday morning that each goalie would start one game of the back-to-back.
