TAMPA, Fla. | Again the Capitals were forced to finish a game with five defensemen. And this one hurt badly in the third period.
Mike Green suffered what Bruce Boudreau called a “lower-body injury” sometime during the Caps’ 4-3 Game 3 loss to the Lightning at St. Pete Times Forum.
Green played just 13:24 and his final shift came early in the third period – 59 seconds. He left the ice with 18:37 left in the period and did not return. He remained on the bench the rest of the game.
TSN reported that Green was seen limping to the team bus.
Dennis Wideman did not make the trip, Boudreau said earlier Tuesday. Sean Collins or Tyler Sloan would be the next option if Green can’t go in Wednesday’s Game 4 with the Caps facing elimination.
