Capitals' D.J. King clears waivers

D.J King just wanted a chance to play. The Capitals gave every team around the NHL the chance to take him.

No one took that opportunity, as the tough guy cleared waivers at noon Tuesday, according to TSN’s Bob McKenzie.

Less than an hour earlier, coach Bruce Boudreau didn’t know what would happen next.

“You feel for him. D.J.’s one great guy,” he said. “We don’t know what we’re going to do yet.”

A team spokesman said King remains on the Caps roster. To make room for Cody Eakin, the team put Jay Beagle on injured reserve, which only frees up a roster spot. Beagle cannot play for seven days from the injury, which happened Oct. 13.
