Mike Green can’t catch a break. Just 18:03 into his return from a right ankle injury, the Capitals defenseman got hurt again Friday night.
He got caught up in an awkward collision with New Jersey’s Ryan Carter and appeared to tweak something in his lower body. A source with knowledge of the situation confirmed Monday that Green suffered a groin injury. Officially, the team is still calling him day-to-day.
“It’s waiting to see. It happened Friday. I’m hoping he’s back within a week, playing,” coach Bruce Boudreau said earlier in the day. “So I guess that’s day-to-day, once you take the Friday, Saturday, Sunday, the days off and when he starts skating and then gets playing, that’s my hope.”
Boudreau added that he hopes Green joins the Caps on their road trip.
Green’s lower-body injury was first reported as a right groin strain by The Washington Post.
