A day off can do an injured defenseman good.
That was the case for Roman Hamrlik, who credited a day off for his ability to practice Monday and hopefully play Tuesday night for the Capitals at the Nashville Predators.
Hamrlik said he suffered an “upper-body” injury Saturday night against the New Jersey Devils.
“I was a little bit sore. I decide to not finish the third period,” Hamrlik said. “Today I’m feeling much better, I [had] a good skate and hopefully be ready tomorrow.”
Coach Bruce Boudreau said he expected both John Erskine and Hamrlik to face the Predators.
For Hamrlik, it’s really more than a hopeful chance. The Caps have only six healthy defensemen, counting him and Erskine, and won’t have an extra on the trip.
“Yeah, I’m ready,” Hamrlik said.
