Troy Brouwer was in obvious pain in the waning minutes of regulation Tuesday night. He took a tumble on his right shoulder after a shove from Ducks defenseman Toni Lydman and was hunched over on the bench.

He did not play the remaining 2:16 of the third or anything in overtime. The problem? Brouwer had surgery on that shoulder in May and worked all summer to come back to play.

The 26-year-old missed practice Wednesday and is officially “day-to-day” according to coach Bruce Boudreau. But a source said there is no structural damage in Brouwer’s shoulder and that he should play this weekend.

The source said Wednesday’s “maintenance day” was just a chance to give Brouwer a day off to rest it.

With Brouwer out, Joel Ward moved up to the top line. Mike Knuble moved up to the third line in his place.
