Troy Brouwer was in obvious pain in the waning minutes of regulation Tuesday night. He took a tumble on his right shoulder after a shove from Ducks defenseman Toni Lydman and was hunched over on the bench.
He did not play the remaining 2:16 of the third or anything in overtime. The problem? Brouwer had surgery on that shoulder in May and worked all summer to come back to play.
The 26-year-old missed practice Wednesday with what a Capitals spokesman called a “maintenance day.” That’s what Mike Green’s first day off was called after twisting his ankle, and he hasn’t taken part in a full practice since.
Green was on the ice to start Wednesday’s workout but left after 10 minutes and watched from the bench, without pads. Coach Bruce Boudreau on Tuesday was hopeful Green would take part in full practice Wednesday.
With Brouwer out, Joel Ward moved up to the top line. Mike Knuble moved up to the third line in his place.
