Accountability, thy name is Alexander Semin.

First there was a benching during a game on Nov. 11, now, the Russian winger was a healthy scratch Monday night when the Capitals faced the Phoenix Coyotes.

Semin has four goals and five assists, a minus-3 rating and a team-worst 28 penalty minutes this season. The 14 minor penalties are tied for second-worst in the NHL.

Goal-scoring-wise, Semin is off to the slowest start of his career.

You know what, people don’t realize he tries,” coach Bruce Boudreau said Sunday. “I’ve watched the tapes on him, and he’s really trying. Sometimes, Semin’s like Ovi – he’s not used to not scoring goals.”

He was replaced in the lineup by Mathieu Perreault.
