It doesn’t appear to be looking good for two injured Capitals players getting into game action Friday at the Carolina Hurricanes.

Troy Brouwer (right shoulder) missed Thursday’s practice, and Mike Green (right ankle) left the ice after about 35 minutes of skating. Green appeared to be having trouble putting weight on his right foot when stepping off.

Coach Bruce Boudreau said Green was definitely out at Carolina. Brouwer, who was not made available to reporters because he left Kettler Capitals Iceplex early, is doubtful. Boudreau said both will be on the trip.

A source said Brouwer was expected to practice and could play at the Hurricanes and/or at the New York Islanders on Saturday. But the Caps seem to be preparing for the big right wing to be out. The source said there was no structural damage and he was held out Wednesday for precautionary reasons.

The top line featured yet another new look at Thursday’s workout, with Alexander Semin playing on the right side of Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom.
