Marcus Johansson took a puck to the middle part of his body. It was about midway through the second period, and the Capitals center was in obvious pain.

He missed the rest of the second and was absent when the third began. The last thing the Caps needed was an injury to add on to the insult of a stretch that became a 3-8-1 one with Tuesday night’s loss to the St. Louis Blues.

But Johansson returned to the game in the third, and the report from coach Dale Hunter afterward was a good one.

“He’s fine,” Hunter said. “He had a stinger on his hand.”

It appeared to be Johansson’s right hand, given the way he reacted on the play.

Johansson took regular shifts from his return at the 5:13 mark of the third throughout much of the rest of the period.
