RALEIGH, N.C. | Cody Eakin went on television to talk about it, his first NHL goal puck in hand. A smile was plastered on his face then, and as he held court with reporters in the visiting locker room at RBC Center.

Where’s that game puck going?” a reporter asked. The question never got answered. Instead, Alex Ovechkin sneaked around the corner to deliver a shaving cream pie to the 20-year-old.

It’s funny until someone gets shaving cream in their eyes. OK, even then it’s funny.

Eakin didn’t see it coming.

“No, I had no idea. I wasn’t even thinking about it,” he said. “They got me good. Eyes wide open, in the nose, in the mouth. It’s stinging now.”

As Eakin was walking away and reporters were speaking to Ovechkin, the rookie kindly thanked his captain for the honor. It’s part of a night he’ll never forget.
