The bad news for Jay Beagle came after his fight with Arron Asham Thursday night, as the Capitals forward wanted to get back into the game but couldn’t – thanks to NHL protocol about head injuries.
The good news came later and the Friday morning, as it seems Beagle is not severely injured.
“I talked to him and other than a fat lip, he was fine,” coach Bruce Boudreau said. “I thought, initially, like everybody else, that [a concussion is] what it would’ve been. But he doesn’t have any of the symptoms as of now.”
Boudreau did not commit to the idea of Beagle being back on the ice for Saturday’s practice, though, deferring to trainer Greg Smith and team doctors to make that call.
Overall, the coach said he was “really pleasantly surprised” that Beagle came out of the fight without getting badly hurt.
