With 2:25 left in the first period, Senators (and ex-Capitals) defenseman Sergei Gonchar took a shot to the lower part of his right leg from Matt Hendricks.

The rest of the time on the ice, he was skating awkwardly and was doubled over in pain when he reached the bench.

During the intermission, he got X-rays, according to the CSN broadcast. An Ottawa spokesman said Gonchar had a bruised foot from that shot block. He did not return.

Gonchar, who spent parts of 10 seasons with the Caps, is in the second season of a three-year, $16.5 million contract.
