Michal Neuvirth apparently was feeling better Saturday after a long post-skate workout, and it’s possible he is now good enough to at least serve as the Capitals backup goalie.

The team sent goaltender Dany Sabourin, who served as the backup Saturday, back to Hershey Monday morning.

Neuvirth spent over an hour on the ice Saturday, working extensively with Dave Prior. And while he was moving gingerly at first and struggling to push off, his motions seemed to improve.

“He was tentative at the beginning, but you always are,” Boudreau said Saturday. “And then at the end of practice I talked to him and he said as soon as he loosened up he felt a lot better.”

Neuvirth practiced for just over 20 minutes Monday before leaving. Jay Beagle again did not practice.

Also according to the AHL, Garrett Mitchell and Maxime Lacroix were sent from South Carolina of the ECHL up to Hershey.
