Michal Neuvirth’s injury status has never been worse than “day-to-day” over the past week, even as he missed three straight days of Capitals practices.

It looked like the goaltender was on the mend Saturday when he worked out for an hour and then Monday when he was on the ice with his teammates. Dany Sabourin had been sent back to the Hershey Bears, which appeared like good news.

Then, Neuvirth left the ice Monday after about 20 minutes. That was not planned

“He was still sore,” coach Bruce Boudreau said. “It’s still a lower-body injury.”

Neuvirth might not be able to back-up Tomas Vokoun Tuesday night against the Florida Panthers.

“Well, I’ve got to figure he’s got to go through a full practice to be that,” Boudreau said.

Given that assessment, it seems the Caps could make another recall Tuesday, whether that’s Sabourin or Braden Holtby.
