VOORHEES, N.J. | Goings on around the Flyers Wednesday included a few roster moves that will make Thursday night’s game against the Capitals very interesting.
Philadelphia called up highly touted prospect Brayden Schenn from the minors, adding another young player to a lineup that already features impressive rookies Sean Couturier and Matt Read.
To bring up Schenn (four goals, four assists in American Hockey League), the Flyers sent down Harry Zolnierczyk and tough guy Zac Rinaldo. The latter demotion is specifically important because it likely means enforcer Jody Shelley will be plugged into the lineup vs. the Caps.
Thursday is the first game Shelley is eligible to play after serving a five-game suspension to start the season. Caps coach Bruce Boudreau said recently that he tailors his lineup to matchups, so it would figure to reason D.J. King will return Thursday in Philadelphia.
Meanwhile, back in Arlington, Alex Ovechkin missed practice, but a Caps spokesman said it was a maintenance day.
