Mike Green has a twisted ankle. John Erskine has yet to be cleared for contact with a bum shoulder.
Paging Sean Collins.
The Capitals are recalling the defenseman from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, his agent told The Washington Times.
Justin Duberman said in an email that Collins was on his way to join the big club. No immediate reason was given for whether the recall was in response to Green’s injury or just having another defenseman available as the Caps go on the road to face the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks.
As of mid-afternoon Monday, the club had not announced the recall, and it had not yet been offically posted on the AHL’s transactions ledgers.
Collins is a right-handed defenseman, so it would make sense that he got the call instead of Dmitry Orlov, the 20-year-old who impressed during the preseason. But Collins may or may not be in the lineup against the Oilers, as Green’s agent, Craig Oster, said in a phone interview that he was optimistic his client would play.
