EDMONTON, Alberta | Mike Green was not on the ice – again – for the Capitals Thursday during the morning skate at Rexall Place, the fourth straight workout he missed.
And what was not “looking good” Wednesday became certainty, as the All-Star defenseman was ruled out of playing Thursday night against the Oilers.
Green twisted his right ankle Saturday on the same play he was hit in the face by the puck on a Darren Helm dump-in. There was optimism earlier in the week from agent Craig Oster that Green could play in Edmonton, but that has faded alongside missed practices and the image of the 26-year-old limping around the arena in Edmonton.
Sean Collins moves into the lineup to replace Green. John Carlson and Roman Hamrlik figure to get bigger roles on the power play in Green’s absence.
