On Monday while speaking in glowing terms about Mathieu Perreault and how his outstanding preseason led him to make the Capitals roster, coach Bruce Boudreau did toss in a shot at the young forward’s … hair.
“Hopefully he’s not like Samson, because he is gonna get his hair cut,” Boudreau said.
Not so fast.
“No. I’ll probably shave my beard so I don’t look as a caveman. But I’ll probably keep my hair,” Perreault said. “I’ve always had my hair long. People wouldn’t recognize me if I cut my hair.”
Perreault added that “might have just a little trim” as Jay Beagle noted this was the longest he had ever seen his hair.
Only once before has Perreault been forced to cut his hair – by Canada world junior coach Craig Hartsburg in 2006.
“When I went to world juniors, Team Canada, we have to have our hair short. So I have to cut my hair for that too,” Perreault said. “But that was five years ago. That was the last time I had a short haircut.”
The worst part for Perreault? He was cut from the team. And that hair didn’t grow back fast.
