All week the possibility existed of Marcus Johansson being a healthy scratch for the Capitals’ season opener Saturday. He was the recipient of some message-sending from coach Bruce Boudreau, who admitted he wanted more out of the second-year center.

Now it seems like that will actually happen. Judging from the lines at the morning skate, Johansson will be in the press box Saturday night, while Mathieu Perreault is expected to center the second line.

Alex Ovechkin was on the ice for the skate, on the left wing with Nicklas Backstrom and Mike Knuble. He is expected to play after returning Friday from Moscow.

Jeff Halpern missed the skate in observance of Yom Kippur. Dennis Wideman, who practiced Friday but not Thursday, was not on the ice. A team spokesman said Wideman would play.

Here are the lines and pairings:

Alex Ovechkin – Nicklas Backstrom – Mike Knuble

Troy Brouwer – Mathieu Perreault – Alexander Semin

Jason Chimera – Brooks Laich – Joel Ward

Matt Hendricks – Marcus Johansson* – Jay Beagle – D.J. King

Karl Alzner – John Carlson

Roman Hamrlik – Mike Green

Jeff Schultz – John Erskine+

* Replacement for Halpern

+ On injured list.
