Capitals fans desiring a taste of hockey won’t have to wait long now. Rookie camp starts in earnest on Sunday (Sept. 11) and as usual will be free and open to the public at Kettler Capitals Iceplex.

The climax of rookie camp will come on Sept. 15 with the annual game against Flyers rookies on Sept. 15 at 5 p.m. This year it will take place at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia; tickets are free and doors open at 3:30.

Rookie camp is the next chapter in what appears to be a roster battle for one of the final spots between Cody Eakin and Mattias Sjogren. The big Swede appeared to get the better of the shifty yet gritty Canadian center during prospect camp in July, and his physical presence could give him a small edge to make the team.

Below is the Caps roster and schedule for rookie camp. For the Flyers’ camp roster, click here.
