Capitals practice update: Optional skate

After two overtimes and an intense, tight-checking Game 2, it wasn’t surprising that the vast of the Washington Capitals’ regulars took Sunday off from on-ice workouts. Jason Chimera was the only player from the Game 2 lineup who skated in the optional practice.

Chimera played 13:55 in the 2-1 double OT victory over the Boston Bruins.

Michal Neuvirth skated with the scratches/black aces and looked better than he has even in recent days. It does not appear like he’s close to being ready for backup duty, or even as close as Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask, who might be in uniform for either Monday’s Game 3 or Thursday’s Game 4.

Neuvirth and Chimera were on the ice with Mike Knuble, Jeff Halpern, Cody Eakin, Mattias Sjogren, Dmitry Orlov, John Erskine and Dany Sabourin.

Several players who did not skate were made available to reporters in the locker room during and after the optional skate.
