After knocking off the Boston Bruins, Washington Capitals players got ovations from the crowd at practice Friday. No more than Joel Ward, the hero of Game 7.

Ward got huge cheers from fans as teammates tapped their sticks on the ice. The 31-year-old right wing scored the game-winner in overtime and then was the subject of racist slurs on the Internet.

Ward took his spot on the Caps’ fourth line alongside Mike Knuble and Keith Aucoin. All the lines were the same, and why change?
