No update on Michal Neuvirth

Michal Neuvirth’s injury looked bad when it happened, his left leg bending just a little too far and knocking him out of the Washington Capitals’ game against the Florida Panthers on Thursday night.

As of early Friday afternoon, coach Dale Hunter did not have much of an update. He said Neuvirth was set for a doctor later in the day.

“We don’t know yet,” Hunter said.

The same lack of answers came when asked about calling up a goaltender to back up Braden Holtby in Saturday’s regular-season finale at the New York Rangers. Dany Sabourin figures to be the guy, though he might play Friday night for the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey league.

“We haven’t decided yet. We’re waiting to see what the doctor says who we call up,” Hunter said. “I hate to jump to call somebody up. We’ll see what happens.”

Hunter called veteran goaltender Tomas Vokoun still “day-to-day.” He has not skated at the Caps’ practice facility since aggravating a groin injury March 29. The Caps’ coach said Vokoun would not skate Friday or Saturday.
