Tomas Vokoun tried to skate Sunday afternoon and play at the New York Rangers, but he couldn’t go. Michal Neuvirth got the start for the Washington Capitals.

But Vokoun, who’s suffering from the flu, was not on the ice for Monday’s optional morning skate back at Kettler Capitals Iceplex. Neuvirth was the only goalie on the ice and confirmed he will  start Monday night against the San Jose Sharks.

Most of the Caps’ players were on the ice, with Brooks Laich, Dennis Wideman, Marcus Johansson and Roman Hamrlik the only skaters who didn’t take part.
