Having a dozen NHL scouts in attendance for the Washington Capitals’ game Monday night against the San Jose Sharks may be just circumstantial evidence. The trade deadline is less than two weeks away now, and the Caps are just outside the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference.
But then CBC’s Elliotte Friedman wrote as part of his “30 Thoughts” column Tuesday that: “Apparently, no GM is burning up the phone lines more than George McPhee. The Capitals face Canadian-franchise-level pressure to succeed.”
It certainly wouldn’t be surprising. The Caps are 3-4-3 in their past 10 games. They’ve lost three in a row without Mike Knuble in the lineup.
But several players said they don’t worry about trade talk or rumors, preferring to ignore TSN and other reports while concentrating on playing.
