Tomas Vokoun knew Sunday morning that he wasn’t feeling well. That necessitated a text message to Washington Capitals goaltender Michal Neuvirth to let him prepare to play.

Vokoun had come down with a bad case of the flu and couldn’t play at the Rangers, or against the San Jose Sharks on Monday night. But the 35-year-old goalie was on the ice Tuesday morning for the Caps’ optional practice.

Vokoun was one of just a handful of players on the ice the morning after a 5-3 loss to the Sharks. Mike Green was also on the ice, seemingly on schedule to return from sports hernia surgery soon.

Jay Beagle, Joel Ward, Mike Knuble, Jeff Schultz, John Erskine and Neuvirth were the other players to skate.
