On Tuesday, Mike Green was all smiles. On Wednesday, perhaps more importantly, he was on the ice for a full Washington Capitals practice.
It was the first time Green has skated as part of a full workout since undergoing sports hernia surgery on Jan. 17. It seems like another step of significant progress toward his almost-imminent return to the lineup.
Green on Tuesday talked about how good his stride felt, now four weeks after the operation.
“Honestly I didn’t know where I’d be at after this surgery even, if it would be better or not,” Green said. “It’s amazing how it works. I’m impressed.”
Green might not be in the lineup Friday at the Florida Panthers, though his playing on this road trip is not out of the question.
Both goaltenders and every skater on the active roster, plus Green, were on the ice for practice. Tomas Vokoun had been battling the flu but should be all right to start at the Panthers.
Barring any roster moves before Friday, Mike Knuble appears to be set for a return to game action.
