RALEIGH, N.C. | Mike Green was somewhat limited in his return to the Washington Capitals’ lineup Saturday, playing just over 14 minutes. For Monday night’s game, the defenseman said he’d like to be able to handle a bigger load.
“I would hope more,” Green said Saturday night. “I would like to get playing a little bit more as quick as possible.”
That could be coming at the Carolina Hurricanes, as it’s possible the Caps go back to dressing six defensemen and reunited the fourth line that had so much success Friday night at the Florida Panthers. Green is obviously expected to play as he reported no complications Saturday night.
It’s unclear who would be the odd man out on the blue line. Jeff Schultz figures to be the easy answer, though he has performed admirably since returning to the lineup.
Here’s a look at the lines from the morning skate at RBC Center:
Alex Ovechkin - Mathieu Perreault - Troy Brouwer
Jason Chimera - Marcus Johansson - Alexander Semin
Matt Hendricks - Brooks Laich - Mike Knuble
Jay Beagle - Jeff Halpern - Joel Ward
It’s very possible Tomas Vokoun gets yet another start for the Caps after a full-team day off Sunday.
