Amid a series of problems, Alex Ovechkin’s status is the biggest question mark for the Washington Capitals. He missed Wednesday night’s game in Ottawa, skated solo Thursday and is officially day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
Ovechkin skated five minutes by himself early Friday morning and then took the ice with teammates for the morning skate in preparation for the Caps’ game against the Montreal Canadiens. He was wearing a red jersey, while the rest of the forwards were in white.
It is not clear whether Ovechkin’s presence on ice for the skate was an indication that he’d play. He came off the ice after about 15 minutes.
A team spokesman said this was an optional morning skate. Alexander Semin, Brooks Laich and Dennis Wideman did not take part.
The Caps did not do line rushes.
