The trade deadline came and went, and Mike Knuble and Roman Hamrlik are still part of the Washington Capitals. But the more things change, the more they stay the same, as both veterans are set to be healthy scratches again Tuesday night against the New York Islanders.

Knuble, Hamrlik and defenseman John Erskine were the final three players on the ice for Tuesday’s morning skate and got worked out hard by the assistant coaches.

A team spokesman said the veterans were “not talking today.”

Coach Dale Hunter said he had not talked to the veterans at length since the trade deadline.

“Just told them that they’re not playing tonight,” he said. “Get ready to play. You never know when you get in.”

Knuble will be a healthy scratch for the sixth time in 10 games, with Keith Aucoin recalled Tuesday morning and going back into the lineup.

Hamrlik will be a healthy scratch for the fourth game in a row.
