Tomas Vokoun was the first goaltender off the ice at the Washington Capitals’ morning skate, followed shortly thereafter by Michal Neuvirth.

Vokoun was mum on who would start in net Tuesday night against the New York Islanders, deferring to coach Dale Hunter.

“Game time,” Hunter said, understanding the question had to be asked without actually providing an answer.

Neuvirth will start, not a surprise given that he has now won two in a row and stopped 102 of the past 108 shots he has faced (.944 save percentage). Back-to-back victories over the weekend buoyed the 23-year-old’s confidence.

“It was great two wins for me and for our group. We needed it big,” Neuvirth said Monday. “I’m just glad we won on the road and we proved we can win hockey games on the road, too.”

Evgeni Nabokov starts for the Islanders, coach Jack Capuano said.
