Dmitry Orlov was smiling but had some trouble breathing. But after taking a puck to the nose in two straight games over the weekend, the young Washington Capitals defenseman was in good spirits after practice Monday.

“Bad karma,” he said.

Coach Dale Hunter continued the humor a few minutes later when talking about Orlov’s double dose of bad fortune.

“I didn’t want to tell him that usually it comes in threes,” he said.

But Orlov will likely play Tuesday and do so with a full face shield. He was set to go to the doctor later Monday.

Teammates weren’t exactly impressed, but that’s a good thing.

“He’s a hockey player,” forward Troy Brouwer said. “Every guy does that. It kind of just comes with the territory and comes with the job. He’s a pretty tough kid. But for the most part, it’s hockey.”
