Mike Green skated again Thursday morning in full pads as he continues to work back into shape after sports hernia surgery on Jan. 17. The Washington Capitals defenseman was on the ice for the seventh time in the past 10 days and third in a row.

“He was on the ice today. So he’s on schedule; that’s what the main thing is,” coach Dale Hunter said. “He feels better. He feels more comfortable out there than he was before.”

Green was expected to miss four to six weeks from Jan. 17 and begin skating two weeks after the operation. He did just that and was very optimistic when he addressed reporters last week on his second day on ice.

“I’ve talked to a few guys and they’ve came out great. So that’s positive for me. I just have to make sure I’m doing the right things here to get better quick,” Green said. “Four to six weeks, I’m hoping to be back before that.”

“On schedule” would put him on pace for a return in late February or early March.
