No news isn’t really considered good news for the Washington Capitals and their two injured Young Guns. That was the case again Thursday when coach Dale Hunter didn’t have much of an update to provide on either Nicklas Backstrom (head) or Mike Green (groin).
“No, they’re still day-to-day,” Hunter said.
The Caps’ coach said there was still no timeframe for Backstrom or Green returning to skating. Backstrom has not practiced since Friday after taking an elbow to the head Jan. 3.
“We’ve been seeing what’s happening. We’re very cautious now,” Hunter said. “You see injuries, and you’ve got to be more careful. We’re all being very cautious with Nick and he’s basically day-to-day.”
Backstrom was again not made available to speak to reporters.
Green has not practiced since leaving Saturday night’s game at the San Jose Sharks after aggravating a groin injury that caused him to miss over a month and a half.
“We’re building strength, so we’re just waiting to do that and we’ll go from there,” Hunter said.
