MONTREAL | It wasn’t enough for then-Montreal Canadiens goaltender Jaroslav Halak to torment Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals during the first round of the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs. It wasn’t enough for Halak, with the St. Louis Blues, to beat Ovechkin and the Caps in November to spoil Dale Hunter’s NHL coaching debut.
No, Halak even haunts Ovechkin in video games.
A reporter asked the Caps star on Wednesday at Bell Centre about clearing his mind of Halak after that 2010 series, and apparently it has taken much longer than expected.
“Actually, it’s funny story,” Ovechkin said. “Last night I was with my friend in my home and we play video game and Halak stopped [everything]. Halak was the first star of the day. And my friend just told me, ‘Jesus Christ, this guy just destroy in playoffs.’ I don’t want to talk about it.”
Halak stopped 131 of 134 shots in Games 5 through 7 in ‘10. He made 16 saves on 17 shots earlier this season in beating the Caps. Ovechkin didn’t provide a number of saves for Halak’s performance in EA NHL 12.
