PITTSBURGH | The Washington Capitals made it through the storm from Raleigh to Pittsburgh, and Saturday’s practice was no joke. They were on the ice for over an hour at Consol Energy Center, knowing there’s plenty of work to be done after a 3-0 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.
“I think the whole game last was something that you always think, ‘What happened? Why we don’t control the puck? Why we don’t shoot the puck?’ ” captain Alex Ovechkin said Saturday.
Shooting is a priority, and that was evident Saturday. But not a whole lot changed with the lines and pairings from Friday night. Here’s a look:
Alex Ovechkin - Marcus Johansson - Troy Brouwer
Mike Knuble - Brooks Laich - Alexander Semin
Jason Chimera - Jeff Halpern - Joel Ward
Matt Hendricks / Cody Eakin - Mathieu Perreault - Jay Beagle
Karl Alzner - Dennis Wideman
Roman Hamrlik - John Carlson
Dmitry Orlov - Tomas Kundratek
John Erskine - Jeff Schultz (extras)
Dale Hunter said Friday he knew “in the back of my mind” who would start in goal Sunday at the Penguins. But on Saturday he wasn’t ready to share whether Tomas Vokoun or Michal Neuvirth would be in net. Neuvirth has stellar numbers against Pittsburgh since last season, but Vokoun has been stellar vs. the Penguins this year.
