OTTAWA | Dennis Wideman enjoyed his best NHL season playing alongside Zdeno Chara with the Boston Bruins. The Washington Capitals defenseman would have probably an encore, but he won’t get it in Sunday’s NHL All-Star Game.
Instead, Wideman is on Team Chara’s second defensive pairing alongside Toronto Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf.
Interestingly, Wideman and Ryan Suter are the only two Team Chara defensemen who have not been captains at the NHL level. Kimmo Timonen wore the “C” in Nashville and Brian Campbell in Buffalo.
