TAMPA, Fla. | Tomas Vokoun got a chance to see his wife and daughters over the NHL All-Star break. Family, not hockey, was the idea for a few days.
Now the Washington Capitals’ No. 1 goaltender is rested, recharged and could be back in full-out hockey mode right away. The 35-year-old starts Tuesday night at the Tampa Bay Lightning and could get the call on the second half of the back-to-back, too, Wednesday night at the Florida Panthers.
“I worry about this game here tonight and we’ll deal with it later,” coach Dale Hunter said Tuesday after the morning skate. “But Tomas is a veteran and whatever I ask, he’ll do.”
Vokoun has started 12 of the past 14 games. In his past six starts dating to Jan. 11 against Pittsburgh, he has a 1.95 goals-against average and .934 save percentage.
